THE FAMILY

For five generations in the world of coffee

SAQUELLA espresso comes from a long family history and passion. All members have always been immersed in the culture of coffee and the scents of roasting, learning the art of Italian espresso from an early age. The secret formulas and recipes of the blends, jealously guarded, are handed down from one generation to the next to keep the flavors of this long tradition unchanged.

Enrico Saquella

"Making coffee is art and passion: you must have art in your blood, passion in your heart"

Ilaria Saquella

"I remember the smell of coffee in Grandpa Arnaldo's clothes as a child"

Bianca Saquella

"I have breathed the air of the coffee factory since I was a child. And this is where I really feel at home"

Arnaldo Saquella

"Ours is a fascinating profession where the word counts and the handshake is essential"

VISION E MISSION

VISION
We want to be a point of reference in the production of high quality espresso coffee, positioning ourselves in Central Italy as a leading company in the HORECA channel and, abroad, as Italian excellence among the top 10 coffee exporters.

MISSION
From a long tradition consolidated in 150 years of history, our mission is to continue to offer a high quality product, without compromise, respecting the values that inspire our choices every day.

SAQUELLA QUALITY

"Behind a good cup of espresso there is always a careful search for raw materials" - Enrico Saquella
Quality is the basis of the company philosophy, consolidated in over one hundred years of experience, and still today this value inspires the choice of each new strategy.
Quality, sought after and obtained at every level of the production process: from the careful selection of the coffee of origin, from the composition of the blends, from roasting to the most innovative packaging systems.
The blends are composed of about ten varieties of single-origin coffee of pure Arabica and Arabica and Robusta to satisfy the different taste needs.
The desire to offer a product that is always better, safe and compliant with the highest international quality standards has led the company to obtain the following certifications:

  • UNI EN ISO 9001
  • BRC AA +
  • IFS
  • FDA
  • Fairtrade
  • Kosher
  • SMETA

Purchasing in the country of origin

Green coffee is purchased directly in the countries of origin after having subjected the samples to tastings and laboratory tests.
In this way, the company selects and chooses the best quality coffees to produce its own exclusive blends.

After the arrival of the containers, only if the tests carried out on the batches reflect the high standards required can the raw material be released in the internal warehouse.

SUSTAINABILITY

SAQUELLA in 2013 adheres to the values of equity and sustainability and obtains the Fairtrade certificate. International ethical certification brand that supports the most disadvantaged producers in developing countries, guaranteeing them a fair price and enabling them to enter the trading system in conditions of transparency and fairness, thus improving their living conditions.

SAQUELLA today produces the “Bar Italia Fairtrade” blend where 4 different coffee origins from Peru, Colombia, Brazil and India are expertly blended and give life to a balanced coffee with a soft and round taste.

The Fairtrade branded product is certified and subjected to strict controls to ensure that each link in the production chain is respected and complied with the principles of Fairtrade.

PRODUCTION

In Pescara, on an area of 11,000 square meters, of which 5,000 are covered, there is the factory in which the experience acquired in more than one hundred years is combined with a wealth of sophisticated technology.

Over 20 varieties of raw coffee are mixed in different ways and packaged with modern systems to meet the most varied needs of the market.

The warehouse internal customs

SAQUELLA is one of the few Italian companies with a bonded warehouse in which all the customs clearance operations of raw coffee batches from the countries of origin are carried out. Always inside, all customs operations are carried out for goods destined for abroad.

Investments looking to the future

The company constantly makes major technological investments to increase production capacity and make improvements to the production process.
The expansion of the number of green and roasted coffee silos, carried out in 2018, guarantees a considerable storage capacity and allows longer degassing and resting times that allow SAQUELLA blends to reach the right ripeness and have a perfect extraction.

THE DISTRIBUTION IN THE WORLD

In the Italian market, the consolidated presence in the HORECA and RETAIL channels makes SAQUELLA one of the most successful roasting companies in central Italy.

In foreign markets, the company is present in 40 countries with a significant penetration in the most qualified bars and restaurants, in Organized Distribution and in traditional retail. The internationalization process began in the 1970s and sales on the foreign market, made through a network of distributors and its subsidiaries, Saquella Deutschland and Saquella UK, now represent 65% of global production.
